Join us to celebrate the work of our local children’s opera group, featuring the current company performing music by Britten including extracts from the operas Noye’s Fludde, The Little Sweep and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Also included are songs with words by leading children’s writers Michael Rosen and Antony Horowitz that are inspired by Britten’s popular children’s work Friday Afternoonsand a performance of an unpublished poem by Horowitz. Along with current members on stage, there are recorded extracts of previous performances, and interviews with adult performers and children who have been involved over the years.  The audience also – briefly – plays a role, performing The Audience Chorus Songs from The Little Sweep.

“For more than a quarter of a century Jubilee Opera has been lifting the standards of children’s opera in Britain to standards that match anything in Europe” enthused critic Roderic Dunnett about Jubilee Opera’s Britten Centenary production A Time There Was.  Formed as a result of a production of Britten’s Noye’s Fludde in Aldeburgh Church in 1987, Jubilee Opera has been giving aspiring young performers the opportunity to work with professionals on high-quality productions ever since, with several previous company members having gone on to careers in the performing arts.

Join the Jubilee Opera team after the performance for a drink and to discuss past and future projects.

The performance finishes at approx. 4.10pm.  There is no interval.
