British tennis player Christine Truman was a true global sporting star of the 1950s and 60s, with an extraordinary roster of achievements at home and abroad. Thrust into the spotlight as a teenager (she reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon aged 16, and was the then-youngest singles champion at the French Championships two years later), she looks back on a unique sporting life in the post-war era. Later a popular broadcaster, speaker and writer, her sassy and insightful memoir Miss Truman To Serve is packed with anecdotes from her upbringing, to meeting sporting legends and Hollywood superstars, attitudes to women then and now and reflections on success at a young age and its parallels in today’s world. Join us for a fascinating look back at a remarkable career. She will be signing copies of her books for sale at the event.
