Two of Mussorgsky’s moodily atmospheric musical portraits from Pictures at an Exhibition feature in this concert for saxophone trio. These two much-loved miniatures are paired with a new work by Benjamin Attahir, whose music blends Western European and Middle Eastern influences, and a piece by Alexis Ciesla, a composer whose style draws on classical, klezmer, jazz and folk traditions. Ciesla’s work is presented as a personal tribute to Mozart. The programme is completed by music from Lorca and de Falla, both inspired by the rich melodies and rhythms of Spanish folk music.A-Delta Trio is a vibrant Basel-based saxophone ensemble exploring repertoire from Bach to contemporary commissions. Winners of the 2024 Prize for Best Performance of a Post-1945 Work at the International Chamber Music Competition in Arnuero, they are emerging voices in European chamber music.
