Friday Lunchtime Concert: Trio Incendio I

Dvořák’s second piano trio was written shortly after the death of his daughter and, turbulent and elegiac by turns, it stands as an honour to her memory. Suk’s Elegie is also a memorial piece, for a writer and poet of Bohemian legends, and is of striking beauty.

The third piece is Sir Andrzej Panufnik’s remarkable trio – composed at the age of 19, of which he said: “without thought of public performance, I was trying not to control essential technicalities but to write a true musical composition containing some expressiveness of feeling and vitality”.
