“O come piace” (as it pleases) – Legrenzi’s invitation becomes the guiding thread through 17th-century Italy. This programme moves freely between sacred lullabies, theatrical laments and virtuosic sonatas, showing how composers from Monteverdi to Farina delighted in blending form and style to expression, invention and pleasure.
Bellot Ensemble are a dynamic period instrument group known for their energetic performances and style-specific improvisation. Specialising in 17th-century repertoire, the ensemble combines rigorous historical research with spontaneous creativity, sharing the joy of this glorious repertoire with their audiences.
Bellot Ensemble are the recipients of the Keith Coventry Bursary and are also supported by The Fidelio Charitable Trust.

Jubilee Goes Global presents Buena Vista Social Club Night with the Edgar Macias Quintet
UK-based Venezuelan pianist Edgar Macias has become a highly regarded performer known for his versatility across genres ranging from jazz to salsa. Over the course of his impressive career, he has collaborated with acclaimed artists such as Wynton Marsalis, David Murray, Scott Hamilton, and Bobby Wellins. This evening, he presents a special tribute to the legendary Cuban ensemble The Buena Vista Social Club. The group and their Grammy Award–winning 1996 album achieved global acclaim, selling over 8 million copies.
Joined by Chris Bowden (saxophone), Tom Hill (bass/vocals), Miles Levin (drums), and Néstor Pedrales (percussion), Edgar offers his own interpretation of the iconic record through fresh Latin jazz arrangements of its timeless songs.
‘A superb quintet (…) who collectively created a compelling mix of Cuban percussive rhythm and jazz improvisation on what was a careful thoughtful crafted re-arranged intoxicating project’. ‘(…) a stand up ovation from a packed enthusiastic audience’
– Paul R. Croft, The Blue Room at Lincoln, UK
This event will end at approximately 9.30pm.

The Piano Trio was the medium by which Beethoven announced himself to the world with his Op.1 set. It is followed by Helen Grime’s Miniatures, inspired by three chalk and pastel works by Whistler, which explore intimate atmospheres and subtle gradations of palate. The programme is completed by Fauré’s Piano Trio in D minor, written at the very end of the composer’s life.
Founded in Basel in 2023, Trio Archai has quickly gained international recognition through winning First Prize and Beethoven Prize at the Schoenfeld International String Competition 2025 in China, and First Prize at the 72nd Royal Over-Seas League Competition 2024 in London. Their performances have taken them to prestigious venues and festivals including Wigmore Hall, St George’s Bristol, Schaffhausen Klassik, Swiss Chamber Music Festival, and Whittington Festival.
The name Archai (pronounced “Ark-ai”), from the Ancient Greek for “origins” or “first principles”, reflects the ensemble’s shared musical values and their commitment to grow together.
Kindly supported by The Albert and Eugenie Frost Music Trust.

Named after the old Northumbrian word for twilight, ‘The Darkening’ is made up of four North-East England-based members: Kathryn Tickell (Northumbrian smallpipes, fiddle, vocals), Amy Thatcher (accordion, synth, clogs, vocals), Tim Bloomer (guitar), Joe Truswell (drums, percussion); with Stef Conner from Cambridge (vocals, lyres). Together these dazzling musicians create musical magic; dynamic and unique “Ancient Northumbrian Futurism”.
Based in the shadow of Hadrian’s Wall yet reaching out to the wider world, Kathryn Tickell & The Darkening explore the connecting threads of music, landscape and people over a period of almost 2000 years.
Songs range from themes of freedom, nature and venturing out into the world after times of darkness, to a Roman inscription with links to Libya and Syria magnetically pulled into the 21st century with glorious vocal harmonies and the wildest of piping.
