Beethoven’s profound and extraordinarily moving late masterpiece, his String Quartet No.15.

Composed in his final years, the quartet is the product of a period in which the composer concentrated solely on chamber music, putting his full compositional genius into what might be considered classical music’s purest form.At the centre of the work is one of the most deeply personal and heartfelt movements in the entire quartet canon, a slow movement written shortly after Beethoven had recovered from an illness, described by the composer himself as a “Hymn of thanksgiving”.

Founded in 2020, the Velvet Quartet brings together four musicians from Turkey, Latvia, Spain and Germany. Prize-winners at the 2024 Gianni Bergamo Classic Music Award and Köhler-Osbahr Chamber Music Competition, they are emerging as one of Europe’s most exciting young string quartets, combining incisive performances of the core repertoire with innovative collaborative projects.

Velvet Quartet are the recipients of the John Lawrence Field Memorial Bursary.
