Saint-Saëns’ Second Piano Trio moves from desolation to breathless energy – one of chamber music’s most intriguing pieces.Defying convention, it spans five movements, each wildly different from the other, but united by a sparkling precision and brilliance. The composer himself once joking referred to it as an “atrocity” but listeners over the years have begged to differ. The concert starts off with music that’s both fresh and elegant – Haydn’s Piano Trio No.22, full of sweetly singing melodies.Trio E.T.A. formed in Hamburg in 2019 and has since become one of Europe’s most exciting young chamber ensembles, recently winning the prestigious Premio Trio di Trieste.
