Join ‘Suffolk boys’ Mike Warner and Richard Negus in a captivating conversation about custodianship of our countryside and coast.
Richard as a hedgelayer, and Mike as a fisherman, share many years experience of working ‘in the field’ and ‘out at sea’. They now also champion farming and fishing, which are such vital allies to our rural and coastal communities, landscape and wildlife.
Mike & Richard discuss the realities, challenges and successes of working the land and sea. As well as the future opportunities that can be harnessed to sustain a thriving countryside and coast.

Mike Warner – A Passion for Seafood 
Mike is a born and bred Suffolk food writer, specialising in telling the ‘Net to Plate’ story of how our seasonal and regional British catch is caught and landed, whilst connecting producer to consumer. Mike is passionate about the sustainability of not just our native fish stocks, but the fishing communities themselves; their tradition, culture and heritage. He is also an independent seafood and fisheries consultant, working with mainly hospitality and media clients to help forge the traceability connection and better understanding of the realities of seafood production.
He is a member of the Guild of Food Writers, a trustee of the fishermen’s charity, Fishing into the Future and chairman of the Shellfish Association of Great Britain.

Richard Negus – Words from the Hedge
Richard is a former soldier and professional horseman. He now lays hedges for a living and is recognised for leading hedgerow management and rejuvenation. Richard is a practical conservationist, writer and now author of the widely acclaimed Words from the Hedge – A Hedgelayer’s View of the Countryside.
Richard co-hosts a weekly podcast, Countryslide, covering British rural life, and his writing features in The Daily Telegraph, The Critic and Scribehound. He is Suffolk born and lives in the heart of his beloved county.
